On the road again…

Hey! I arrived back in Hawaii from Asia on Saturday. However, our bathroom renovation isn’t finished yet, so I’m still living out of a suitcase. Additionally, I’ll be heading to Las Vegas on Thursday for my cousin’s wedding reception. It’ll be awhile until I’m able to post regularly again!

Naturally, I wanted to BUY. ALL. THE. SKINCARE. THINGS. in Korea, but since I know next to nothing about Asian skincare (and I’m pretty broke, heh), I only picked up a few makeup items.

Also, one day during a long tour bus ride in Taiwan, I impulse bought some things from the ColourPop x Jenn Im collection. It literally had my name on it and I couldn’t resist.

Looking forward to putting pretty things on my face again! It was sinfully hot in Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, so most days I only slathered on sunscreen and slapped a bare minimum of makeup on my face.

Hope you all are well. :)

FOTD: Embellishment

Yet another FOTD venturing into the world of liquid lipsticks. It’s a trend that I am not 100% behind. I only have three liquid lipsticks: two from NYX, and one from Stila. Honestly, I don’t really get the hype. They supposedly last forever (and yet, they don’t on me), and they have lots of cool and unusual colors. But they’re so drying and in my humble opinion, I don’t think the super matte lip is very flattering on anyone. You know, they kinda make your lips look like a butthole. :X

However, I will admit that there are unconventional colors that probably wouldn’t translate as well with a traditional bullet formula (like Stone Fox). The colors are really the only reason why I bothered to buy some, as I find them rather fiddly to apply as well.

The NYX Lip Lingerie line are basically nudes with a hint of 90’s grunge. There are quite a lot of brown and gray tones in the line, some of which would probably look awful on my skin tone. Embellishment isn’t the most flattering on me either. The strong purple gray tone is a little hard for me to pull off, and I have to carefully coordinate the other colors on my face to avoid looking dead and drained.

I used Makeup Geek’s Prom Night, a purple-y taupe, and blended it out with a few gray tones in the Viseart Neutral Matte palette. A touch of plummy brown on my cheeks pulls the look together.

I’m still not in love with Embellishment, nor the liquid lipstick trend. Neither the formula nor the color are “swipe on and go” friendly. Still, it’s a unique color that’s worth keeping around.

Whee, things I got rid of! Some of these I actually finished in the first few days of September, but we’re splitting hairs here.

LUSH Cup o’ Coffee Face and Body Mask – This was pretty pleasant, but I’m not sure I’d repurchase it. I’m moving away from manual exfoliation to chemical.

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Mist – The second ingredient in this was alcohol. o_O No indication of whether it was a “good” alcohol or not. In any case, I’m keeping the bottle because the spray produces a nice fine mist, which is more than I can say for my current setting spray.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser and Serum – I actually quite liked this. It was light and pleasant. However, packaging design FAIL. The tube of the pump didn’t reach all the way to the bottom, so there was still a good deal of goop stuck to the bottom. I gave up trying to scrape it all out.

Pureology Reviving Red Oil – Obviously, my hair is no longer red. I just kept using this because why not?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation samples 3.25, 3.5 – Neither of these were a great match. However, due to the nature of the sample pots, they may have oxidized a bit. I wasn’t impressed with the formula either. Sigh. Finding a good foundation is such a chore.

Be a Bombshell eye base in Submissive – This is actually a nice color. I don’t know if the pot is old or what, but the formula is annoying to work with. It doesn’t blend or spread well. It was a gift, and I rarely reached for it, so whatever.

e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator – It started to smell rancid. I like the concept of it, but I think I prefer a lip scrub in a pot. Or just using a washcloth.

Versace Bright Crystal Absolu eau de parfum – There’s nothing memorable about this scent for me. Here’s a link to the description on Fragrantica.

Nature Republic Super Origin Complete Control Cream – Hated this. It emphasized dry flakes like whoa. It’s a tinted moisturizer, so the coverage was sheer. It was also greasy, and looked a bit ashy on me, even though I’m about light/medium. There was enough left for another application, but I didn’t like it enough to bother.

FOTD: Stone Fox

Another weird lipstick color! This one, I actually did get the guts to wear it out. I went to a short film showcase last week Friday and decided to just go for it. A few people commented on my choice of color, but I think the key to wearing bold colors with confidence is to literally forget about what you’re wearing. That’s my strategy anyway. Whether or not it actually looks good on me is up for debate, but I (perhaps mistakenly) find it flattering.

With such a striking color, I kept everything else very minimal for this FOTD: soft winged liner, barely there bronzer, blush, and highlight. I also added some cluster falsies to balance my face out.

Also, I took these pics on the day I wore two different colored eyebrow products for this post, so that’s why I look like this:

But I don’t think anyone could tell in real life. Or if they could, they were too polite to tell me, ha.

Lastly, I am leaving on a trip to South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong on Wednesday morning! I’m going to try to get a few posts scheduled before I leave. In the meantime, if you have any makeup or skincare recommendations for me to check out while I’m there (or anything else I should see, do, or eat), please let me know!
