Red Lips District: theBalm The Balm Girls Lipstick – Mia Moore

Next stop on our tour of the Red Lips District: theBalm The Balm Girls lipstick in Mia Moore!

People seem to either love or hate theBalm’s cheeky and cheesy packaging. I, for one, love it. Puns and all.

Once you get the bullet out of the packaging, though, it’s pretty nondescript.

In fact, it looks like a silver version of the easily recognizable MAC lipsticks. Here’s the one MAC lipstick I own, for reference.

It’s a bright, orange-y red on me. It was a bit dry when I first applied it, but I hadn’t touched the tube in awhile. In fact, I don’t think I ever wore it until I finally got around to preparing this post!

In any case, it wore well and held its own after a meal of ramen noodles. It did fade a bit unevenly in the middle, but that’s to be expected. It was also drying, but nothing a slick of lip balm won’t fix.

I’m wearing a bunch of other theBalm things on my face. Just to keep it consistent, you know.

Okay, I lied. I have an ulterior motive. theBalm is currently on sale on Hautelook, and in case any of these things on my face inspire you to buy it, then you can grab it at a discount.

Am I thoughtful, or what? ;)

theBalm The Balm Girls lipstick – Mia Moore

A note: I myself bought Mia Moore (and pretty much ALL of my theBalm products) from Hautelook. The last time I ordered, some items arrived damaged. Cindy-Lou Manizer was shattered (I pressed it back together with alcohol), a concealer jar was cracked, and this lipstick was oddly melted.

To be fair, when I received the box, it felt really warm, like it had been sitting in the delivery truck in the hot sun all day long. Still, Hautelook has great customer service, and when I emailed them about this, they actually refunded me (well, gave me Hautelook credit) on all the damaged products. So essentially, they were all free.

I’ve ordered makeup from Hautelook many, many times, and in my experience, this was NOT the norm. I was just unlucky. However, I have read several stories that Cindy-Lou Manizer arrived cracked (not just Hautelook, but in general), so I think it’s an overall fragile product.

theBalm is on sale on Hautelook until Tuesday, May 4th, 8 AM PST. Please feel free to use my invite link, if you want.

Korres is on Hautelook… and the pickings are good.

hautelook korres

Hautelook’s Korres sale started this morning at 8AM PST!

It’s a great sale: a nice mix of skincare and makeup. No body butters or lip butters, though, which is probably what they’re best known for.

They have a cheek butter trio, which includes all the colors (full sized) I talked about in my previous post, for $22. Twenty-two!! For all three! The retail price for these are $25 EACH, so this is an amazing steal! I bought mine for $12 each, so getting all three for $7.33 each makes me so jealous!

Another bizarre thing to note is that these are returnable, which is never the case for makeup from Hautelook. I’m assuming the standard unused, unworn return policy applies, but if you happen to get hit with buyer’s remorse, you can actually return these.

They also have a couple Zea Mays powder blush duo, in Natural/Peach and Rose/Apricot, for $14.

Lastly, they have both Magic Light Contouring Trios in Santorini and Mykonos, for $10 each. I’m always tempted to pick these up because they look so, so pretty in the pan.

However, lately I’ve been spending beyond my means, and I know it’s because I’m trying to buy my happiness after the complete graduate school fiasco and the resulting fallout. It’s time that I focus my energy into finding a solution, which will involve me saving money instead of spending it.

This is a fantastic Hautelook sale, but I will show self-control and refrain from buying things! Look at me, being a responsible adult!

You, however, can check out the sale here and use my personal invite link to sign up, if you like.

Sale ends Sunday, 5 October at 8AM PST.

butter LONDON is on Hautelook!

hautelook butter LONDON

One of my favorite nail polish brands, butter LONDON, is on sale on Hautelook today!

Their formula is a dream to work with and it’s easily my favorite out of all the polishes I own. The only reason I don’t own more is because they’re pricey, at around $15 USD per bottle. But you can nab some today for cheaper, so haaayyy!

I’m very tempted to pick up this set:

butter LONDON Sloane Square set of 2

Sloane Ranger- Set of 2: Fiver and The 444

I was tempted to buy Fiver when it came out. Because mint.

But this is what made my jaw drop and my eyes bug out:

butter LONDON London Calling set of 40

London Calling – Set of 40

Holy Mother of Nail Polish Gods. Is this for real? I’ve wanted at least 5-10 of these at one point and now 40 of them are available in a set? With a cute little display case?

Oh wait, it’s $475.

While I certainly don’t have that kind of money to splash out on nail polish alone, maybe someone in the world does?

EDIT: Busted! You can grab the London Calling set for the same price of $475 on butterlondon.com. So it’s not really on sale.

Shop the sale here at hautelook.com (personal invite link). Sale ends Thursday, July 24 at 8am PST.

Korres and theBalm are on Hautelook!

I wasn’t going to post about this, but this morning I noticed that the Korres sale has been extended until Monday, so you have the weekend to shop both sales!

theBalm is frequently on Hautelook, and I’ve bought nearly all of my theBalm products through Hautelook. In my humble opinion, I think this brand is highly underrated, especially their lovely blushes!

Korres is rarely on Hautelook. The last time I saw it on sale was around September last year. I remember because I was planning on making an order and I decided to wait until morning to see if I still wanted it (trying to resist impulse purchases!), but the sale had already ended by then! So I waited and waited and waited and now it’s finally back, and the products I wanted to pick up are offered again, so I snapped them up! I bought all of the Cheek Butters, and a Zea Mays powder blush in Natural (influenced by this glowing review on Temptalia).

I wish I had waited a couple days until theBalm’s sale started, because I could have added a couple things to my cart and not have to pay shipping twice. I really really really want Cindy-Lou Manizer, and it doesn’t help that I keep looking at swatches and reviews.

However, my current financial situation and goal most definitely does not align with throwing money at beauty products I don’t need (at all, ever), so I’m just going to look and sigh wistfully at the pretty pictures on my screen.

Korres ends Monday, June 23 at 8 AM Pacific.
theBalm ends Tuesday, June 24 at 8AM Pacific.

theBalm is having a flash sale!

thebalm flash sale 5.6.14

I just got this email less than an hour ago, and I thought I’d let you guys know that theBalm is having a flash sale tomorrow! Everything is going to be 50% off site-wide on thebalm.com!

theBalm is such an underrated brand that’s only recently been getting more attention. I have all three of their Shady Lady palettes, and the Nude ‘Tude palette, and their eyeshadows are beautifully pigmented and easy to blend. I also have the oft-discussed Mary Lou-Manizer highlighter, and while it’s definitely tricky for beginners to use, I do think the color is lovely and flattering. Just use a light hand and blend, blend, blend! Lastly, I picked up an InStain blush in Toile during one of their Hautelook sales, and it’s become one of my favorites. Basically, I have yet to find a dud in this line!

I want to try Cindy Lou-Manizer, and replace the Sexy Stacey single I threw out recently, but I’ll probably be refraining this time. Being an adult and saving money and shit.

Will you be picking anything up?
