FOTD: Panda Eyes

No clever product-name-as-post-title today. A couple weeks ago, I decided to do a full-on panda smokey eye, just for fun.

I very rarely line my waterline, as it makes my already tiny eyes look extra beady. But it does make my eyes look chocolate-y brown.

Also, I blended out the black with a bit of bronzer. This is a trick I picked up from Viola of Killer Colours. It prevents the black from blending out to a weird grayish blue, and instead makes the black look extra black.

I added some faux freckles to keep the vibe casual and a little undone.

Wearing a full-blown smokey eye like this definitely makes me feel sexy, so here is a gratuitous, try-hard model pose:

September and November 2016 empties

The last empties post I wrote was in August. In September, I traveled a lot and it was tough to keep up with and keep track of my trash. Also, apparently I didn’t use anything up in October and December? *shrugs*

Asia trip empties

I took the pictures as I finished them, so I didn’t have to pack empty bits and pieces. Because that would be silly.

Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Cream – These eye cream foil packets are always so huge. It takes me forever to get through eye cream because I apply a small amount each time. Anyway, I don’t remember how I felt, if anything, about this eye cream.

Bioderma Sébium H20 Micellar Water – This was an adorable sample that Beautylish sent me with my very first order from them. The green one is for those with oily skin. I have normal skin, and on me, all micellar waters perform about the same for me.

Holika Holika Aloe 99% Soothing Gel – I received two of samples with a purchase at a Holika Holika store in Korea. I like it better than the Nature Republic equivalent that we currently have at home. It was non-sticky and absorbed well. I used it when I got a little too much sun on my shoulders and chest, and it prevented peeling.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser – Err, I don’t remember anything about this. Sorry.

Atelier Cologne Cédrat Envirant – This reminded me of a delicious gin and tonic with a squeeze of fresh lime. Great summer scent. Here’s the Fragrantica page on it, since I’m a total n00b when it comes to scents.

Boots No. 7 Velvet Lash mascara – This was released shortly before I left London in April last year. It was a pretty good mascara, but not my favorite. The formula was too dry for me, and it left my lashes feeling a bit crunchy. I think it’s a fiber formula too, which I’m not a fan of. I wouldn’t repurchase.

Project Pan 2017

There’s been a marked increase in the number of hits on my Project Pan 2016 post. This makes a lot of sense: It’s January, and a lot of us are feeling the pinch on our wallets from holiday spending. It’s also high time for making New Year’s resolutions. Why not resolve to use what you have, and be more discerning about what you buy?

Last year

Looking back on what I had resolved to use up, it’s easy to feel a bit defeated. Here are all the things I wanted to use up by the end of 2016 (I wrote this post in May):

Makeup/color cosmetics

I’ve managed to use up the BECCA powder, and the Hourglass primer. The NARS blush crumbled out of the pan. I did end up purchasing a Deep Throat/Laguna duo to replace it.

The Benefit Hoola bronzer now has a sizable pan showing, and the Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero is now down to a tiny little nub.

On the other hand, the Make Up For Ever powder seems bottomless. I use it daily to set my makeup. However, it’s such a huge jar, and I use so little of it every time. I doubt I’ll finish it by the end of this year.

Miscellaneous beauty things

I’ve finished The Body Shop’s Aloe body butter. The peppermint leg gel and the Oils of Life facial oil are both nearly done. I gave the cuticle oil to my mom and am currently working on a CND Solar Oil instead. Barely used the Melt Away Cuticle Eliminator and the lip scrub.

This year

The only way to successfully use things up in their entirety is to consistently use them everyday.

I know, that seems like such an obvious statement, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll find it hard to stick to using a small percentage of your large stash, day in and day out. To combat this, I keep other items in rotation to break up the monotony. Also, as a wannabe beauty blogger, I do have to come up with different FOTDs from time to time, if only to prove to myself that I *can* create different looks.

So, here’s what I plan to use up this year!

FOTD: Jenn Ne Sais Quoi

fotd-jenn-ne-se-quoi

I feel a bit sheepish posting this FOTD, because most of the products are no longer available. Also, I’m not sure why it looks like there’s a hint of a sneer on my face. Maybe my smile lines are getting deeper with age. Eep.

I made my first ColourPop order a couple of months ago, because I got an email from them stating that they’d be discontinuing the Jenn Im collaboration, Jenn Ne Sais Quoi. While I don’t actually follow Jenn Im, the colors from the eyeshadow quad looked so perfect, and umm, it literally had my name on it. I also bought the Lippie Stix in Jenneration X.

For the sake of brevity, I’ll do a separate post with swatches on my ColourPop stuff, as well as my thoughts on them. Otherwise this post will get way too long and boring, especially because no one really wants to read about products that are no longer available.

The look ended up being quite tonal, with orange-y reds on the lids, lips, and a hint on the cheeks. Orange harmonizes quite well on my skin tone!

Sorry for the stupid pose, but this angle shows off the cheek color really well. It’s Soap & Glory’s Peach Party, a very shimmery peachy blush. I hardly reach for it because it’s easy to over apply, but the extra effort it requires is definitely worth it.

Face

Pixi Correction Concentrate – Brightening Peach
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum – 52 Vanilla
Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle – Chestnut Milk Parfait
The Body Shop Honey Bronze – Drops of Sun
BECCA Dual Coverage – Tahini
Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish
Benefit Hoola (Look at all that pan!! *__*)
Soap & Glory Peach Party – Apricot Jam

Brows

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown
Collection Colour Lash mascara – clear (This is the last time I’ll be listing this in my product description, since this is the only brow gel I have. I also have three more tubes of this, so this won’t change for a long time.)

Eyes

ColourPop SuperShock Shadows – Jenn Ne Sais Quad (Un, Deux, Trois, Quatre)
The Body Shop Smoky 2 in 1 Gel Liner & Brow Definer – Brown
Soap & Glory – Thick & Fast mascara

Lips

ColourPop Lippie Stix – Jenneration X
Prestige Lipliner – 201 Poppy

Overall, I loved how well this look turned out. The general “rule” out there regarding bright makeup colors is to use it on one feature at a time. I think this disproves that rule! Eyes, lips, and cheeks all have noticeable color, but in varying degrees of intensity. I think this is a great way to wear a colorful look without looking clownish or too “done.”

What’s in my travel makeup bag? September 2016

september-makeup

I’m back!!

Well, I’ve been home for almost three weeks now, but as I am practically incapable of behaving like a functioning adult, I am only getting around to reviving my poor blog now-ish. Heh.

I was away from my makeup stash for most of the month of September. First, I went on a trip to Asia with my dad. I came back to Hawaii for a few days and stayed at my uncle’s place while waiting for our bathroom renovation to wrap up. Then, I spent a weekend in Las Vegas for my cousin’s wedding. When we finally moved back in, it took awhile to sort our lives back in order. It’s still not 100% sorted out, but whose life really is, amirite?

Anyway! This post is on what was in my travel makeup bag that I used for the past month. Let’s see what made the cut.
