Project Pan 2017

There’s been a marked increase in the number of hits on my Project Pan 2016 post. This makes a lot of sense: It’s January, and a lot of us are feeling the pinch on our wallets from holiday spending. It’s also high time for making New Year’s resolutions. Why not resolve to use what you have, and be more discerning about what you buy?

Last year

Looking back on what I had resolved to use up, it’s easy to feel a bit defeated. Here are all the things I wanted to use up by the end of 2016 (I wrote this post in May):

Makeup/color cosmetics

I’ve managed to use up the BECCA powder, and the Hourglass primer. The NARS blush crumbled out of the pan. I did end up purchasing a Deep Throat/Laguna duo to replace it.

The Benefit Hoola bronzer now has a sizable pan showing, and the Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero is now down to a tiny little nub.

On the other hand, the Make Up For Ever powder seems bottomless. I use it daily to set my makeup. However, it’s such a huge jar, and I use so little of it every time. I doubt I’ll finish it by the end of this year.

Miscellaneous beauty things

I’ve finished The Body Shop’s Aloe body butter. The peppermint leg gel and the Oils of Life facial oil are both nearly done. I gave the cuticle oil to my mom and am currently working on a CND Solar Oil instead. Barely used the Melt Away Cuticle Eliminator and the lip scrub.

This year

The only way to successfully use things up in their entirety is to consistently use them everyday.

I know, that seems like such an obvious statement, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll find it hard to stick to using a small percentage of your large stash, day in and day out. To combat this, I keep other items in rotation to break up the monotony. Also, as a wannabe beauty blogger, I do have to come up with different FOTDs from time to time, if only to prove to myself that I *can* create different looks.

So, here’s what I plan to use up this year!

July 2014 empties

It’s about that time of month again. I’m going to talk trash.

I used up A LOT of things last month. Be prepared for a lot of trash talking. ;)

july2014 empties bodycare

Shea Terra Organics Moroccan Argan Oil – This is the exact same thing as Josie Maran’s Argan Oil from Sephora, but cheaper. Josie Maran’s is $48 for 1.7 oz, whereas Shea Terra’s is $24 for 2 oz. Both brands also have a jumbo 4 oz. size. Josie Maran’s is $96, and Shea Terra’s is $42. Also, if you sign up for email updates for Shea Terra, they send a 30% coupon just about every month (which brings down the 2 oz. size to $16.80!). I’ve never used the Josie Maran one, so I don’t know if it’s somehow superior. I have no complaints about the Shea Terra one, though. I’ll probably repurchase eventually, when I have a little more money to throw around.

The Body Shop shea body scrub – This is the second time I’ve used this scrub. I like that the salt granules melt away. However, I want something with finer granules, so I want to try either the Honeymania or the Spa Africa Ximenia flower one next. Or something else altogether. Who knows? I’m adventurous.

The Body Shop passionfruit shower gel – Love this smell. It’s my favorite out of the limited edition summer fragrances (papaya, blueberry, raspberry, and passionfruit). I’m currently working on the papaya one, but I don’t love it as much. It has a weird tang to it.

The Body Shop hemp hand protector (mini) – I already mentioned in a previous empties post that I love this hand cream. However, I’m not a fan of this mini size. It tends to pressurize in the tube, especially on planes, and it ends up squirting out WAY. TOO. MUCH. I’ve probably wasted a good third of the tube on my arms because I had too much extra. The large size is still carry-on friendly at 100mL, so I think I’ll continue to purchase the big one from now on.
