Seeing as we’re already halfway through June, I’d better get these up now-ish.
This will most likely be rambly and boring, so feel free to click away. *shrugs*
e.l.f. Shine Eraser blotting papers – I could have sworn there used to be 50 sheets per pack, but now there are only 30?? As a result, I’m going through these faster than before. Also, now that it’s summer, I’ve been using 3 sheets a day.
Nature Republic Hyaluronic Acid Aqua Collagen Solution – I like these gel masks more than paper ones. They feel more substantial and soothing. I enjoyed this one and have one more that I need to use before I leave!
Jouer lip gloss in Sunset – Just tired of this one. I don’t use lip gloss much anymore, and I have no feelings one way or another about this.
Yes to Carrots Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 – It’s okay. I know there are better spf moisturizers out there, but I’m kinda cheap when it comes to skincare. Mostly because skincare ingredients etc. intimidate me.
The Body Shop Frosted Cranberry eau de toilette – It’s a sweet, one-note fragrance. I liked it, but I bought it only because I used to work there and needed to wear a company fragrance.
The Body Shop Moisture Foundation in 05 – FINALLY DONE WITH THIS MOTHERFUCKER. This foundation just wouldn’t die and I started to really resent it. It’s been discontinued, but I wouldn’t repurchase it if it were still being sold. It wore horribly throughout the day, looked greasy, and clung to dry patches. Blech.
The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector – HG status. I will forever repurchase this hand cream. Again, the scent is not for everyone, but it is the best hand cream for my perpetually thirsty paws.
Since we’re already halfway through August, I’d better write some words about July’s empties before September is upon us!!
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water – I bought this mainly because it’s cheaper than Simple’s version, price per ounce. It does leave a bit of a sticky residue that the Simple one does not, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve already repurchased, and plan on buying this one from now on.
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue – First off, this perfume sample was gorgeous:
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine postcard
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine postcard back
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine packaging
Keep in mind that this was a free sample from Sephora. The attention to detail and presentation is astounding, and I love it. I don’t plan on sending the postcard; I’d rather keep it and put it up on a wall or something.
The scent itself smelled like juicy, freshly cut oranges. Nothing sweet or candy-like about this. I once smelled this on a customer in The Body Shop, and since I couldn’t place it, I had to ask her what it was. She pulled out this sample from her bag. That’s how memorable this scent is! Here is a perfume review by Kafkaesque, and here is one by Bois de Jasmin. Perfumes are a very personal choice, and I’m only just starting to dip my toe into it. Both blogs I’ve linked are great resources and the writers are far more experienced than I am!
As for me, I’d love to add a small bottle of this fragrance to my collection one day.
The Body Shop baked eyeshadow in 02 Moonstone – A very old eyeshadow. I bought this when it first came out, years before I started working there. It doesn’t have much pigment and it’s rather glittery without being interesting. Not a fan of this particular color. I do have another, 01 Copper, that I like much more.
Makeup Academy Intense Color Eye Liner in Snow White – I bought this while in the UK because I needed a white eyeliner to do the skull makeup I wore for Halloween. It’s okay, nothing to write home about. The cap has a built-in sharpener, which is useful. However, it also leaves the pencil exposed to the air, which will probably cause it to dry out faster than I can use it.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Underground, Gunmetal, Uzi, Binge – I actually love all of these colors. Unfortunately, I got caught up in buying a lot of Urban Decay’s eyeliner sets. I have a lot of them, and most of them are drying out now. They’re harder to apply, and don’t smudge well any more. In the future, I will be buying eyeliners piecemeal, especially since I use the same colors frequently.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil in Ozone – I used this clear lip liner whenever I wanted to prevent highly pigmented lip colors from bleeding outside of the lip line. This is another old pencil, and the entire core of it has been pulled out of the wooden casing. Oh well. I intend to buy a cheaper, drugstore version.
Jouer lip gloss in Cherish – Started to smell bad. I’m not much of a lip gloss person anymore, either. Formula-wise, it was comfortable to wear, and not too sticky. Cherish was a soft, flattering color and I used it whenever I wanted a quick slick of something on bare lips.
Still continuing this seemingly hopeless battle to shrink my collection! Of course, it doesn’t help that brands are constantly coming out with shiny new things, all of them pulling at our purse strings. Additionally, fall makeup is my favorite, so the temptation is all too strong!!
Here’s another old-ish FOTD. I’m tempted to just do a pic dump of all my backlogged FOTD, honestly…
So far, all of my looks have been pretty natural/nude-tral on the eyes. A couple months ago, I dug out my Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette to play with. Lately I’ve been rediscovering it; there are lots of great colors! I just wish there were a few mattes in the mix. Every single color is shimmery, and while I loved it a few years ago when it was released, I have since improved my makeup skills and learned to appreciate a good matte color for adding dimension.

Oh boy. You can tell this is an old FOTD as a number of these products had already made their way into my empties pile before this post went up. Oops.
I do wish the blending on this could have been better. I worked at it too, but I couldn’t get rid of that line. Definitely not one of my favorite looks, but it was fun to play with color. Also, Urban Decay’s Solstice works SO WELL on top of so many different colors!
It seems that at the beginning of every empties post, there is the obligatory “I can’t believe it’s already [month] already and OMG this year is going by so fast!” exclamation. Because it is. Goddamn.
Most of these empties aren’t so much empty as they are things I’ve decided to part ways with.
theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer – I can hear a collective gasp of shock ripple through the beauty-loving community. Deciding to throw away THE definitive highlighter, the Holy Grail of so many makeup enthusiasts? Sadly, yes.
This was the first highlighter I ever owned, and the only one I used for awhile. However, the powder started to smell very strongly of crayons, so I think the waxes and oils in the formula has turned rancid. I actually held onto it for about a month after I discovered the smell and continued to use it. I haven’t had any reactions to it, but with the explosion of my highlighter collection, throwing this out will barely make a dent. I’ve toyed with getting The Manizer Sisters palette, but I honestly don’t need it.
Jouer matte touch powder and bronzer – In hindsight, I never should have purchased the two Jouer palettes. I wrote about Sunday Brunch here and Blushing Beauty here, but I never reached for them after using it for the blog. This powder and bronzer duo seems to be of subpar quality: the powder is chalky and I have a hard time getting any pigment from the bronzer.
Jouer eyeshadow in Caramel – I’m a bit hesitant to throw this out. It’s a beautiful, soft peachy gold, perfect as a quick wash all over the lids. However, I’ve noticed darker spots in the powder and I’m worried it’s mold.
The Body Shop Colour Crush eyeshadow in 215 Coconuts About You – This eyeshadow doubles as a convincing contour shade. I’m throwing it out because it’s a little too dark for me to use as a contour. Plus, I tried to de-pot it and while it survived, it bears ugly scars.
OCC Lip Tar in Memento and Anime – A few Christmases ago, OCC released a fabulous mini set of their Lip Tars with four versatile colors. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of keeping the tubes squeezed while not in use and the sides have cracked. Also, the formula began separating. The only one that’s still in good condition is NSFW.
theBalm Open to Offers Olwen – I don’t think I ever used this.
Shiro Cosmetics Gift of Toadstool – This was a free sample that I used to practice pressing loose shadows. I used too much binder solution and the powder is way too stiff and unusable.
Kat Von D Tequila – Nothing wrong with this, I just have too many similar shades.
Collection Super Size Fat Lash mascara – This was super cheap, and it performed cheaply as well. I didn’t like it very much.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Sleeping Cream – This is a nice night cream and I might buy the full size one if/when I move to London, where my skin gets severely dehydrated.
pür minerals Sweep It Off brush cleaner – I stored this away horizontally for the six months I was in London, and when I came back, over half of it had leaked out. I used the rest to clean brushes used for liquid/cream products.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O – Beautylish included two samples of their best-selling Bioderma micellar waters when I made my first order. Stellar customer service! I like it, but no more or less than the Garnier one I’m currently using.
Did any downsizing happen on your end of the keyboard? Also, I have edited a ton of pictures so expect a bunch of posts to go up this month. Yay!
Another FOTD from my backlog folder. I wanted to challenge myself with matte eye shadows, since shimmery shades are by far more forgiving, and easier to blend.
Obviously, it’s been a minute since I actually wore this, and while I took a picture of the products I used, it’s not a complete gathering, and I’m a little confused as to why?? For example, I’m not sure which black gel eyeliner I used, e.l.f.’s or Inglot’s. I also have no idea what I used for foundation. But well. Here you go.
I know I used both concealer and foundation. I’m going to assume I used my usuals for concealer (Pixi and BECCA).
Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder – Diaphanous
The Body Shop Colour Crush eyeshadow – 215 Coconuts About You (as a contour. It’s the gross looking loose powder thing in a jar. I tried to depot it, and chunks of it came loose. It actually ended up shattering into a million pieces, at which point I threw it away and bought a new one. Needless to say, I won’t be depotting this one. /endtangent)
LUSH Feeling Younger Skin Tint
Korres Cheek Butter – Philia Rose
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder – ??? This product picture makes no sense.

The Body Shop Divide and Multiply mascara
Urban Decay Perversion mascara
Jouer lip gloss – Sunset? I have no idea. I only have two, but I can’t remember the name of the other one.
I really liked the way this turned out. When I first got into makeup, I was all about the dramatic eyeshadow. It took me awhile to gather the courage to try brighter lip colors. Nowadays, I usually go for color on the lips and cheeks, and something basic on the eyes. It’s nice to switch it up every once in a while, don’t you think?
