FOTD: Oh, Put It On

I’m still not on board with liquid lipsticks. Nevertheless, I had to pick up this one when I saw it at Target. It’s hard to find new color releases here.  So, fellow Hawaii makeup addicts, Target has quite an impressive selection of NYX products, including the new NYX Liquid Suede colors. ;)

Oh, Put It On is a deep, almost-black purple. I think it makes enough of a statement on its own, as all dark lips do, so here is my go-to pairing: almost nada on the eyes and face.

FOTD: Potion

This is a look I did and photographed a couple weeks ago, when I was feeling more motivated and ambitious than I felt this week. Last week, I took pictures of my makeup for the blog two days in a row. In contrast, this week I’ve skipped makeup two days in a row. Sigh.

Anyway. I used a Sephora 100-point perk deluxe sample, an Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss. It is highly pigmented and therefore not advisable to apply/touch-up on the go. Dark lip colors like this are hard to work with, and I really have to put time and effort into perfecting it, lest it end up looking sloppy.

A couple quick tips: 1) Use a clear lip liner outside the natural lip line. I forgot to here, and with a dark gloss, that meant bleeding. Not cute. 2) Use a dark lip liner to define and fill in the shape of the lips first before going in with the gloss.

To balance the strong lips, I went very minimal on the eyes. Winged eyeliner and lots of lashes felt like the obvious choice, so I skipped it. Instead, I used the KIKO Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 25, which subtly brightens the area. Did a bit of tightlining, and a couple coats of mascara, then called it a day.

This look probably would look better with a fuller coverage base, but I kind of like the rock-n-roll vibe. I don’t mind some skin imperfections showing through. It makes it feel more effortless and devil-may-care.
