FOTD: Panda Eyes

No clever product-name-as-post-title today. A couple weeks ago, I decided to do a full-on panda smokey eye, just for fun.

I very rarely line my waterline, as it makes my already tiny eyes look extra beady. But it does make my eyes look chocolate-y brown.

Also, I blended out the black with a bit of bronzer. This is a trick I picked up from Viola of Killer Colours. It prevents the black from blending out to a weird grayish blue, and instead makes the black look extra black.

I added some faux freckles to keep the vibe casual and a little undone.

Wearing a full-blown smokey eye like this definitely makes me feel sexy, so here is a gratuitous, try-hard model pose:

Whee, things I got rid of! Some of these I actually finished in the first few days of September, but we’re splitting hairs here.

LUSH Cup o’ Coffee Face and Body Mask – This was pretty pleasant, but I’m not sure I’d repurchase it. I’m moving away from manual exfoliation to chemical.

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Mist – The second ingredient in this was alcohol. o_O No indication of whether it was a “good” alcohol or not. In any case, I’m keeping the bottle because the spray produces a nice fine mist, which is more than I can say for my current setting spray.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser and Serum – I actually quite liked this. It was light and pleasant. However, packaging design FAIL. The tube of the pump didn’t reach all the way to the bottom, so there was still a good deal of goop stuck to the bottom. I gave up trying to scrape it all out.

Pureology Reviving Red Oil – Obviously, my hair is no longer red. I just kept using this because why not?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation samples 3.25, 3.5 – Neither of these were a great match. However, due to the nature of the sample pots, they may have oxidized a bit. I wasn’t impressed with the formula either. Sigh. Finding a good foundation is such a chore.

Be a Bombshell eye base in Submissive – This is actually a nice color. I don’t know if the pot is old or what, but the formula is annoying to work with. It doesn’t blend or spread well. It was a gift, and I rarely reached for it, so whatever.

e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator – It started to smell rancid. I like the concept of it, but I think I prefer a lip scrub in a pot. Or just using a washcloth.

Versace Bright Crystal Absolu eau de parfum – There’s nothing memorable about this scent for me. Here’s a link to the description on Fragrantica.

Nature Republic Super Origin Complete Control Cream – Hated this. It emphasized dry flakes like whoa. It’s a tinted moisturizer, so the coverage was sheer. It was also greasy, and looked a bit ashy on me, even though I’m about light/medium. There was enough left for another application, but I didn’t like it enough to bother.

FOTD: Trickery

I like weird lipsticks. However, I don’t actually have the guts to wear it outside of the house.

Before I left The Body Shop, I made one last order on the L’Oreal employee website. I was sorely tempted to buy all of the NYX Wicked Lippies, but I restricted myself to one. Trickery is a bizarre-looking olive green. I dig it.

I paired it with a blown-out purple eye. Lately, I’ve been favoring the tulip placement; I think it works well for my eye shape and size. In a nutshell, the darkest parts are the inner and outer corners, and the middle is the lightest.

The eyes and lips work together so well here, in my humble opinion! It’s very editorial and almost alien. The only thing I don’t like is the blush. To me, these colors call for a very sculpted look, and if I were to do it again, I would opt for a strong contour and a no blush. Instead, the touch of pink looks out of place here.

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain – Dusty Rose 037

Right before I left London, I decided spontaneously that I needed to buy one of the new Lip & Cheek Stains by The Body Shop. For science!

I used to work for The Body Shop, and their original Lip & Cheek Stain was one of my favorite products. It was often overlooked and under-appreciated! Whenever I needed to inject life into my sallow skin (made worse by the fluorescent overhead lights), I dabbed a bit of it on my lips and cheeks. Suddenly I looked like a human being again, with normal blood circulation!

However, the most telling evidence that I genuinely used and loved the product? I actually finished an entire tube. When you have a stupid amount of makeup like I do, that is quite the feat.

Recently, The Body Shop revamped this product and expanded the color range. While the old line had only three shades, this new one has nine. Additionally, the product was previously packaged in a clear lip gloss tube with a doe-foot applicator. The new ones are much stouter, with sleek black opaque packaging.

An interesting thing to note about the doe-foot applicators: they’re colored red. Normally, applicators are white and they take on the color of whatever product they’re applying. These red applicators somewhat skew the color perception of the product. It looks like this will swatch a bright, almost neon pink, right?

UK Haul, Part 4: Rosie for Autograph

rosie for autograph makeup haul

I’ve already posted about the Rosie for Autograph makeup line here and here. However, after those posts, I picked up a few more things because I’m crazy. I got caught up in the “but I won’t be able to get it easily anymore!” mentality and ended up binge buying quite a number of things. Ugh.

Swatches of the palette and the loose powder highlighter can be found in my original post. I know the swatches aren’t the best quality, so I did re-swatch the palette. However, the natural light was being fickle that day, so they didn’t turn out much better. I didn’t bother to include them here.

The new items I picked up were a translucent finishing powder, a cream eyeshadow stick in the color Movie Star Crush, and a lipstick in the color Lady Rose.
