8 months worth of trash, part 1

Welcome back to this regularly updated blog!

Remember when I used to diligently keep track of my empties every month and showed you what I used up? How about we just pretend that the last 8 months JUSTHAPPENED and that this isn’t embarrassingly late, at all? Cool?

June 2017 empties

Look, things I threw away before moving from Honolulu to London! In June! 2017!

The Body Shop Peppermint Reviving Leg Gel – This took me a long time to use up. It sat in my fridge forever, and I’d use it after running to soothe my muscles. It worked fairly well for that, but it was a bit sticky. I wouldn’t repurchase, simply because I haven’t gone running in about as long as I haven’t done these empties post, and I don’t miss this leg gel. Also, it’s cold here.

L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner – These were also just okay. I don’t normally have strong feelings or opinions on shampoo and conditioners, unless they’re especially awful. I don’t spend nearly as much effort into research and care of my hair as I do for makeup. :P

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo – Another just okay. Wasn’t the best at oil control or volumizing. I did like that it was unscented, though. I don’t think I can find this brand here in the UK, so whatever.

Perfume samples! I had made it a point to spray a bit every day before leaving to go to work, in order to whittle away at my stash of little perfume samples. I don’t remember any thoughts I had about any of these, though.

Dolce & Gabbana Dolce
Givenchy Dahlia Divin
Marc Jacobs Daisy
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
Dior Miss Dior
Gucci Guilty
Balenciaga Florabotanica
Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée

No idea if these were eau de toilette or eau de parfum. #notaperfumeblogger

Foil packet samples. I find these really annoying to use.

Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening & Nourishing Face Oil – Case in point. Have you ever tried to use a foil packet sample of a facial oil? It’s a disaster waiting to happen. Now, it’s probably the most cost efficient way to send out a little sample, but it is messy as hell. Plus, even when I called it done, it leaked all over everything else in my empties bag. Boo.

The product itself had a weird smell, and I didn’t notice that it did anything magical for me. It was really oily too, like it never fully sunk into my skin. I guess I’m used to drier feeling oils? (I know next to nothing about different facial oils.)

Skin Inc Pure Revival Peel – wat. I have no recollection of what I thought about this. I think I liked it better than The Body Shop’s peel that I had sampled around the same time?

This is probably why you should write empties post in a timely manner, Jen. Otherwise, it’s all useless, unhelpful gibberish about trash. Why even.

Anthony Ingrown Hair Treatment – LOL. Um, I think I used this for my armpits, and it was enough for one use. Did I notice anything? No, not really. Apparently it’s for men’s beards. Hahaha, k.

Clarins Double Serum – Drawing a blank for this one too.

April and May 2017 empties

Seeing as we’re already halfway through June, I’d better get these up now-ish.

This will most likely be rambly and boring, so feel free to click away. *shrugs*

April empties

e.l.f. Shine Eraser blotting papers – I could have sworn there used to be 50 sheets per pack, but now there are only 30?? As a result, I’m going through these faster than before. Also, now that it’s summer, I’ve been using 3 sheets a day.

Nature Republic Hyaluronic Acid Aqua Collagen Solution – I like these gel masks more than paper ones. They feel more substantial and soothing. I enjoyed this one and have one more that I need to use before I leave!

Jouer lip gloss in Sunset – Just tired of this one. I don’t use lip gloss much anymore, and I have no feelings one way or another about this.

Yes to Carrots Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 – It’s okay. I know there are better spf moisturizers out there, but I’m kinda cheap when it comes to skincare. Mostly because skincare ingredients etc. intimidate me.

The Body Shop Frosted Cranberry eau de toilette – It’s a sweet, one-note fragrance. I liked it, but I bought it only because I used to work there and needed to wear a company fragrance.

The Body Shop Moisture Foundation in 05 – FINALLY DONE WITH THIS MOTHERFUCKER. This foundation just wouldn’t die and I started to really resent it. It’s been discontinued, but I wouldn’t repurchase it if it were still being sold. It wore horribly throughout the day, looked greasy, and clung to dry patches. Blech.

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector – HG status. I will forever repurchase this hand cream. Again, the scent is not for everyone, but it is the best hand cream for my perpetually thirsty paws.

FOTD: Panda Eyes

No clever product-name-as-post-title today. A couple weeks ago, I decided to do a full-on panda smokey eye, just for fun.

I very rarely line my waterline, as it makes my already tiny eyes look extra beady. But it does make my eyes look chocolate-y brown.

Also, I blended out the black with a bit of bronzer. This is a trick I picked up from Viola of Killer Colours. It prevents the black from blending out to a weird grayish blue, and instead makes the black look extra black.

I added some faux freckles to keep the vibe casual and a little undone.

Wearing a full-blown smokey eye like this definitely makes me feel sexy, so here is a gratuitous, try-hard model pose:

FOTD: Oh, Put It On

I’m still not on board with liquid lipsticks. Nevertheless, I had to pick up this one when I saw it at Target. It’s hard to find new color releases here.  So, fellow Hawaii makeup addicts, Target has quite an impressive selection of NYX products, including the new NYX Liquid Suede colors. ;)

Oh, Put It On is a deep, almost-black purple. I think it makes enough of a statement on its own, as all dark lips do, so here is my go-to pairing: almost nada on the eyes and face.

FOTD: Soft Grunge

fotd-soft-grunge-2

Remember how I said that I’m not very creative on my own, but can recreate tutorials with moderate success? Prime example coming right up!

This look was guided by the much better-looking and more talented Karima McKimmie:

I love grungy looks. The idea that you can look fierce while being a bit disheveled, a bit undone, a bit… un-pretty, is so up my alley.

That being said, I think my look, and by extension, Karima’s, are “pretty” interpretations on the grunge subculture. For a more accurate depiction, check out Sam of Pixiwoo’s tutorial:

I swear, Sam totally owns ANY look she ever attempts. She’s the ultimate badass.

Me, in comparison? I’m not so much grungy as I am just grubby. Womp womp.

I did put eyeliner in the lower waterline, like Karima did. However, I have yet to find ANY pencil eyeliner that will stay in my waterline. So, by the time I finished my makeup and sat down to take pictures, it had slid off and gathered into little boogers at the corner of my eyes. So sexy.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze – Drops of Sun

Incidentally, I broke the lipstick. I twisted it the wrong way, and the bullet has separated from the mechanism that pushes it up. The only way to get it out now is to turn it upside down and shake it. Annoying!
