FOTD: Panda Eyes

No clever product-name-as-post-title today. A couple weeks ago, I decided to do a full-on panda smokey eye, just for fun.

I very rarely line my waterline, as it makes my already tiny eyes look extra beady. But it does make my eyes look chocolate-y brown.

Also, I blended out the black with a bit of bronzer. This is a trick I picked up from Viola of Killer Colours. It prevents the black from blending out to a weird grayish blue, and instead makes the black look extra black.

I added some faux freckles to keep the vibe casual and a little undone.

Wearing a full-blown smokey eye like this definitely makes me feel sexy, so here is a gratuitous, try-hard model pose:

Red Lips District: Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon Napa Vineyard

burt's bees lip crayon napa vineyard

I bought this Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon Napa Vineyard about one, maybe two years ago. At the time, I was going through my “omg red lips tho” phase, and I even started a sporadic blog post series on them.

However, I am nothing if not inconsistent, and that’s why it took me two years to get around to writing a post on this product. Remember, I bought it specifically “for the blog.” Ugh. But whatever. Onwards!

Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon Napa Vineyard

Burt’s Bees is well-known for their “natural” lip balms. They came out with these “all-natural” lipsticks a couple years ago and since the swatches looked promising, I hunted this one down.

Napa Vineyard is a beautiful blue-based red. It’s very pigmented, quite unlike the famed tinted lip balms or lip shimmers. This lip crayon does not mess around. You want a dressed-up, I’m-going-to-an-event-because-I’m-a-grown-up red? This color will definitely fit the bill.

The formula is a bit on the dry side, however. The chubby crayon shape also doesn’t help much to create a sharp line, which I think is a must with such a bright, deep color. You have to go in with a lip brush. Alternatively, you could wear a lip balm underneath and pat this color on to achieve a less saturated stain.

I do like that it’s a twist-up crayon. However, the cap on mine, while cute with its honeycomb pattern, doesn’t stay on very well. In fact, I dropped it once and the cap popped off. The crayon hit the floor on the tip. Gross.

My current go-to look for winter

First things first: Happy New Year!

As the temperatures get colder (yes, even in sunny Hawaii), I tend to change up my makeup look to match the season. Of course, seasonal makeup/fashion trends are nothing new, as the venerable Miranda Priestly cooly reminds us:

But once again, I reiterate: I am not creative on my own. D:

Over the Christmas holidays, I stayed with my boyfriend and his family. I had only packed a minimal amount of makeup. As such, I developed an easy go-to look that was seasonally appropriate, simple to achieve, and requires very few products.

The look

For this FOTD, I was back home amongst my stash and was thus able to do a bit more polishing. My everyday look while playing tourist was sans foundation (gasp, shock, horror. I know.) and definitely sans false lashes.

I otherwise kept the eyes simple and focused more on perfecting the lip and faking that “just in from the cold” flush. For highlighter, I used ColourPop’s SuperShock Cheek in Monster, which added an extra dimension with its icy pink reflect.

Two backlogged FOTDs

I want to clear out my backlogged FOTDs so I can move onto the appalling amount of new stuff I’ve hauled recently. I blame FOMO.

Sheer Anarchy:

This lipstick was part of the Urban Decay Vice sampler card. It’s a pretty, flattering pink. However, it applies a bit patchy and it doesn’t last very long. However, it could be the nature of the little blister pack, and that it’s been slowly drying out for months.

Also, this is an ironic name for this FOTD, as there is nothing anarchist about it. In fact, it’s about as inoffensive as can be.

Face

Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle – Chestnut Milk Parfait
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum – 52 Vanilla

Sephora Birthday Gift 2016

sephora birthday gift 2016

MY BIRTHDAY IS IN FEBRUARY. It’s now December. What the hell is wrong with me.

Okay, to be fair, I was still in London in February. I picked it up in May.

However, in complete honesty, this gift wasn’t very exciting to me.

Black eyeliner and nude pink lipstick. Yawn.

I will say that I like how this eyeliner twists up instead of needing to be sharpened. Supposedly it’s good for tightlining and the waterline as well. I like to pack it when traveling, since I don’t have to sharpen it.

If you like mini things, like I do, you’ll find that the lipstick is cute too. The color is a nude pink that brightens my skin tone. I like it, but it doesn’t get my heart racing, y’know?

Swatches!

Overall, they’re two basic staples that the vast majority of women (or men) would appreciate. They’re safe, work-appropriate, and inoffensive. The lipstick would probably look good on a variety of skin tones, as well.
